About Me

Hi! I'm Deb Broughton. I'm an artist based on the mid-north coast of NSW, Australia. I work from my home studio, painting oil and acrylic artworks, inspired by the beach, fauna and flora around this wonderful country.

I started painting full time professionally in 2003 taking a small gamble by listing an artwork on the infant eBay at $1, and being amazed when a bidding war drove it up to $70. I quit my day job the following month and started a career in art which has faced many challenges over 21 years, but also had some dream outcomes like solo exhibitions and licensing deals which have seen my work published all over the world.

In Summertime you can often find me at markets and festivals around the mid-north coast, I love doing these because being in the studio is a solitary experience, and at heart I like to socialise and meeting my buyers face to face on a monthly basis has been the greatest asset in learning how I can meet the needs of my customers.

Occasionally I take on random projects, like this mural in Kempsey, or being one of the crew teaching art to school kids at Heart to Heart. I like to mix it up, and with a Post-graduate degree in Psycholology behind me, the relationship between art and mental health is a subject very close to my heart.

And in case that's not enough to keep me busy, I'm also mum to a ten-year old (going on 18 year old) son.

In my quieter months of winter I tend to do more painting, so if you are after a commission, now is the time to be in touch. See here for more information.
